John Deere 50

I put a high speed 6th gear in a JD 50. Did this twice before once in a 520 and once in a 530. Put it all together and ran it and now it has a whining noise in both 4th and 6th gears. No noise in the other gears. Whining noise is quite loud. Took it apart again and put it back together. Same whining noise. Talked to the gentleman I purchased gears from and he did not have any ideas. Any help would be helpful and thanks in advance. This forum has helped me before with other issues. Thanks again.

Have you tried any of the many lubricant formulations that claim to reduce gear noise? There are many! Ive had good luck with Lucas products, but have not used their gear noise product.

SAE 320 viscosity . https://www.grainger.ca/en/category/gear-oil/oils/c/29566?filterType=102077_ATTR&filterName=ISO+Viscosity+Grade&filterValue=320&isWildCard=false&q=%3AtopSeller%3A102077_ATTR%3A320&text=&remove_token=&type=&cptype=category#

When you replaced the 4th/6th gear did you also replace the 4th/6th pinion drive gear as a set?

If not, the whining is coming from these two gears having different wear patterns.
