Hi, bought a 50 about 1 month ago, and did"nt work it till today plowing. It seemed like it ran god, when i first started plowing ,but then when it got into 20 minutes, it started hesitating when i pushed the clutch in and under load. Then it just shut off, would"nt start back up, then i drained the bowl, and it was clean, still wouldn"t start then i dragged it home and when i got there tried it and it started up? what could the problem be? thanks 2cylinder it has a magneto and duplex carberation

Try replacing the coil. When they get hot, it will cut out the spark. They will run when cold , but cut out hot. Let it cool and it will run again. Try working it and see if it happens again.

If it does have a magneto, it may have run about long enough to get moisture up in the magneto cap..

I have had to remove that cap and let it dry-out many, many times (after they sat outside in the field)..

They either will not fore at all, or crank and crank, then sound like the engine has exploded..!!

Ron..

Magnetos have condensors, distributors, have coils. They both do the same thing basically.
The 50 should have a distributor. Either way, as stated, your condtion sounds like the coil. Replace it with a new one.

It would be somewhat unusual for that tractor to have a mag. It may have a Wico distributor which looks like a mag.

A mag has a grounding stud only while a distributor has to have an outside power source (battery).

The 50 was an odd ball often leaving the factory with Wico mags and Wico distributors. Long after the other models were "standard" with Delco distributors.
