can anyone tell me if these backhoe tractors are very good or not. has diesel motor supposed to run, okay? not sure what they're worth. any information appreciated thanks.

I have a 500C, I like it.

It essentially a 3020 in industrial format. It's more rugged built that the 300s or 400s of the day, being of Waterloo design vs the Dubuque design. The downside is the 270 diesel engine. It's a good engine, but certain parts are difficult to find, and it is not easy to put in a different engine if yours is unrebuildable.

500 series Deere's are a bit on the heavy side as the weight will affect how it reacts to muddy conditions. I think I'd opt for a 300-400 sized machine. And if you get into muddy conditions , I'd opt for R-1 tires. Short of going 4X4 , , a Ford 4500 with R-1 rubber is a hard to beat machine. If you have to drive the backhoe a lot on streets, R-4 tires are a must.
