We had the control valve for our boom section on our 500B backhoe seals replaced because the boom was creeping down very rapidly. After repair it continues to creep down, but more slowly now. We are told the problem is now in the cylinder. How can we be sure?

i used a pipe shut off value and put one on bottom of the clyinder. Then raise the boom up and then shut off the value if it drops down it the packing in the clyinder. I just replace the packing in some of my clyinder on my oliver. Now it runs like a brand new machine. hope that helps

Use your hoe for several minutes, make sure to use the boom, then fill the cylinder, if it's hot the packing is leaking internal.
