John Deere 5020

Hi I?ve only posted on here a few times but I was offered a
John Deere 5020 for an extremely low price (family). I only do
hay and small square bales at that so I would have no use in
keeping it. I was wondering if there is a reasonable market for
re-sale and if so what I could expect. I?m hoping to take the
money and buy a skidder or another haying tractor.

Thanks again

There was a GOOD market just as recent as the last few years. If it is in good running condition it still has value just not as high as it was. Lower farm income has effected the collector market. So I have seen average running JD 5020s bring $4500-5500 in the last month. Saw a nice restored one with almost new 24.5x 32 Michelin radial tires sell for $18,500 last summer.

There is a post earlier yesterday or the day before on a 5020. From that I would say there is value there. Please state the condition, hours, condition of tires, and shape of the hole in the drawbar. These allow a chance at evaluation. They are interesting. Jim

Thank you JD seller, do you expect the market to go back up as prices hopefully rise in the next five years?

I would have to say maybe. The collector market is fickle. It changes all of the time. JD 5020s where not valuable until about 10 years ago or so. Guys in their 50s that dreamed of these "Muscle" tractors like the JD 5020, IH 1206, AC D-21, where at the point in their lives they had the money and desire to collect these tractors. Look at how the "muscle cars of the late 1960s are selling right now. So when the income swings back they will gain value but I really think they will not reach the crazy high values they have had.

I will say this is similar to how the JD 80s, 820s and 830 tractors shot up in value twenty years ago. Then they peaked and now are falling in value. The JD 70 diesel tractor did the same thing. In the 1990s every collector wanted a JD 70,720, or 730. Then they found out that you had to have a heavy duty trailer and truck to move them or go to shows with them. So there value has gone down while the smaller tractors like the JD M and JD 40 have held there value better.
