John Deere 5055E

I don't post much but always on here looking. Trouble shooting a 5055E with the 9x3 transmission. Sometimes and not always when you put it in gear and let the clutch out the engine will try to shutdown. Push the clutch back in and the engine will keep running. Shut the tractor off and let it set for a couple of hours and all is good. Put it in gear and go. At first I thought that the neutral switch was the problem. Put a new one in, but didn't help. Called a dealer and they said that it was a fuel issue, I don't really buy that. I don't know if it's a heat issue or a bad connection somewhere. I have the full diagnostics book for this tractor as well as the repair manual. Any help would be appreciated.

I have one, but thankfully never had a problem, so I can't help. I'll be watching to see what the culprit is, Post back...

I have a similar tractor 5420. I think you are the right track, looking at switches. Is there a switch on the clutch too? I'd have to go see test it to when starting is blocked by the shifter or clutch. I was having problems with the shifter in cold weather and found that the boot was cracked and the shifter levers were in a depression, full of water and freezing. Is the switch in that depression? My tractor is open station.

Well, I know nothing specific about the 5505, I do know that if it has hydraulically applied clutch packs in the transmission that if two clutch's are engaged at the same time it will lock up like you described. Sticking spool in the control valve can be either a mechanical or an electrical issue if solenoids are used.
Best of luck in getting your problem solved.

Sorry, no help at all. I just wonder about the wisdom/engineering that complicates what once were simple/normal functions of a tractor, and then take major resources to repair (brain and $$).
