John Deere 720 Automatic Fuel Shut-Off

The carburetor I was talking about early came with an automatic fuel shut off. I kind of like to keep it
unless they are a pain in the butt. Has anybody had experience with them? Are they easy to work on
and maintain? Thanks

No, they are not hard to work on. In fact quit easy to maintain. I,ve had a 720 twenty since 1970. And I only had to repair the fuel shutoff once in the last 49 years. To me that isn't much of a pain. I clean the sediment bowl a couple of times a year and check the diaphragms at same time. If you start to gain engine oil after the tractor has been sitting for a few days then you have a leaking diaphragm. You can get new replacement ones from Steiner Tractor Parts; Ph# 1-800-link_disallowed. And the new ones are alcohol resistant. And they cost just a few dollars and are not that hard to change. Hope this answers your questions, john

Diaphragms are still available from Deere for ~$10.00 ea.You'll need 2. Just pay attention to how it comes apart, and reassemble it the same way. Some people will tell you to toss it and use a regular shut-off, but I like the original look. You just have to monitor your oil for gas contamination. That's a sign you need new diaphragms.

Make since that when I was checking the oil I smelled gas in it. I
thought maybe a sticky float. Thanks for your help.

Might be a good idea to get them from Robert s carb. Then you will know you have good diaphragms you won t have to replace again in a year or two.
