i am just curious, why is the 730 and 435 tractors prices so high?
there s a whole lot of 730s, and its basically a 720? horsepower wise?
but prices are so much higher for 730 vs. 720

and the 435 prices are very high to. is that because they are so few made?
or what makes them so desireable for farmers ? or collectbale?

thanks

The 730 is a sharp tractor, no two ways about it. Best looking Deere ever made in my opinion, but not much of a tractor to farm with. I had one for my big tractor for a few years. I really wish I had it back for a collector tractor. I sold it in 1979 for $2500. Diesel, electric start, factory wide front. I was glad to get that out of it. I'm like you though, I just don't understand the price of them these days, except to speculate that everybody wants to own one just to look at it.

Back in the 60s after the new gens came out, dealers would bring those things in to the sale in Archbold by the dozen. They were taking them in on trade and couldn't get rid of them. Every sale there'd be at least three or four dozen of them. The only thing that outnumbered them at the sales was the Allis Chalmers roto balers.

Both are collectable now. The 730 was the pinnacle of John Deere row crop 2 cylinder tractor development. Fifty, sixty years ago most were quickly obsolete and traded in for larger more comfortable new generation tractors (4010-4020). Now people are nostalgic for them. Expensive to repair, especially the diesels.

The Detroit Diesel is much cheaper to rebuild than the 70/720/730.
