My dad has a 730 es diesel. It appears original. 5000 hrs. Dual hyd, fenders, full 3pt, front and rear weights. Tires avg. He will be considering selling it. He will be having an auction. Would it be better to post it, or sell it in a auction. He will have 3 other tractors in the auction, but I know 730's are a more favored tractor. I understand in auctions that he will have to pay a commission but for some reason in our area tractors seem to go a bit higher at a farm auction.

Auctions are always a gamble. I've seen some antique tractors sell extremely well and then a few that sold too cheap, in my opinion. At an auction you can always set a reserve or have someone bid on it for you for protection from an extremely low price. Selling at private sale you set the price and if it doesn't sell you can always lower the price and relist it.

Around here (n/e ark) our farm auctions , you can set a reserve and be there when it sells and tell them sell or not sell. Knowing also you will pay a commission.
