John Deere #900 silo unloader pics

Assembled the silo unloader I have owned 7 years -I removed it from a silo 10 miles north of Lake Erie in Ontario -I got the JD tripod ,winch and ampmeter as well -I have mounted it on a 953 running gear to display at shows as well as make it easy to move around -the auger housing is New Old Stock - a friend picked up at the salvage yard at Sharon Springs NY - there probably are a few around in empty silos that no one knows that they are John Deere -I am displaying the silo unloader at Grimsby Ontario -June 2 & 3 2012 at Deere Thru the Years 175th anniversary celebration of John Deere at the John Deere Grimsby parts distribution warehouse.

I talked to a Deere dealer in western PA many years ago and he said that they sold a dozen or more and that they were great unloaders.About 15 years ago at a dealer closeout sale there was 2 pallets of new housings and augers.I wish that I would have bought them.Sometimes a few parts show up on Ebay.Deere also made auger conveyors and a model 950 bunk feeder. You have a neat find and it is great that you are displaying it.You might look for some original sales brochures to display with it.

I put a main pivot shaft in one of those unloaders years ago for a farmer. The shaft was obsolete then and we found a nos one from dealer parts network.

Very Cool...But How does it work ? I seen the auger at the end of the square tube. What is inside the square tube ?

What you call a square tube is not a tube. It's open on the bottom and has an auger inside which moves the silage to the blower in the middle of the silo. The blower sends the silage out the curved shute and through a door in the silo where it falls down to a feed cart at ground level.

Thanks for the comments--
The unloader dates 1965 -the manual I have states that== I will post more pics-
the auger had bolt on teeth which loosened the silage -the auger brought the silage to the center and lifted it to the round housing the contained a fan which threw it to the side mounted blower -driven by its own motor - and blew the silage through the spout to the door in the silo and then the silage dropped down the chute - I got to the show site yesterday, and there was an older farmer there with his tractors -he told me he had one for 10 years and they worked pretty good -he also bought the 950 auger bunk feeder -BUT NEVER INSTALLED IT!! -he still has the NOS feeder -7 sections -2 sections are also at the show which will be displayed beside the unloader --WOW

i never knew JD made a bunk feeder that is cool, It would be nice to find out every thing that John Deere made, they really did make every thing a farmer needed, It would be nice to see a complete set up of every thing a farmer would of had in the 60's that JD made,

You should look for a couple of the John Deere modern farming catalogs from the 1960's,the last one was 1968. They show pictures of the entire line of Deere equipment for the year as well as a description of each item. They can be found on Ebay for $25-100 each.Nice books with alot of history.Did you know that Deere also made grain and crop dryers? The John Deere day films from Two-cyclinder magazine are very interesting as well.

A few years ago Dad was going through some of Grandpa's belongings and gave me one of those catalogues. I had forgotten about it and it took a while to find it but here it is ...
