hi
have 950 with blown engine/ block shot!!! can you tell me if a yanmar 3t84 will fit and what modifications may be needed to run this in it instead of the impossible to get JD 3t90 <E>:?</E> <E>:?</E> original version? thanks!! Thinking the slightly smaller displacement motor run in many yanmars may fit right onto the trans and be a good repower option for this.
Thank you!!
Mike

There are several posts here asking about engine swaps. You can do a search for the specifics but basically there are very few engines for any model that can be swapped without major modifications like water pump location, oil pan, oil fill location, hyd pump location, etc. Even engines in the same family like a 3TN84 and a 3TNE84 or a 3T84J may have significant differences that would make a swap difficult. If you dont mind those types of hurdles then you can probably substitute a lot of different engines. No one will have a list of compatible engines except maybe Yanmar... and they dont like to share.

Thank you very much. Sounds like I need to sit them side by side and compare every external mounted component. From what you say I think that the transmission housing to block interface is standard and the accessories are the usual issues to overcome? Thanks!!

I don't think that's necessarily what he's saying.

You can swap anything into anything with enough time, work, and money.

Some mis-matches would be easy fixes, like rad hoses and fuel connections. Some would be medium, like modifying the mounts or relocating the oil filter. But if the clutch housing doesn't mate, the engine's too big for the bay, the oil pan won't clear the drive shaft, well, it better be a labor of love.
