John Deere A brass oil filter

When I lift filter out of cleaning fluid while holding thumbs over holes on ends of filter, no fluid runs out of screen, Does this show filter is plugged? What is best way to clean? Thanks

Maybe try some carb. cleaner. If you have a dip basket soak it in there.

Why not change over to a paper element or aren't they interchangeable.

If you add some parts to the insides like the upper stem and bottom plate and spring in the cover I think you can switch it over. The parts book lists the conversion. This may be a better way to go ?
