John Deere A Fanshaft Conversion

Can you just remove the rubber fan, insert the required shaft spacer and reassemble with the friction fan parts, or do you have to remove all the rubber fan parts on the radiator end of the shaft and install new friction parts like washers, bearings and the new felt with retainer?

I have a 36 A with rubber fan and a 37 A parts tractor that I took the friction fan parts from including the spacer for the shaft. I couldn't do a direct swap due to the parts tractors gears being overly worn. I want to just remove the rubber fan and drop in the friction fan but don't know if the spacer for the shaft will fit with the rubber fan shaft internals still in place. I know that fella out East sells the conversion parts, but since I don't need a spacer I was hoping to avoid buying any more parts.

Thanks for the help.

I think there is more to the swap than that. Can you just swap the good bevel gear off the 36 shaft and put it on the 37?

You could reuse your 36 tube and brackets and everything, just put the 37 shaft in it. You are going to have to paint all the new components and fan anyway.

Yes, the bearing and washer work with the spacer and friction set up. I've replaced several rubber fan hubs with the later friction setup. Ordered the spacer from www.greenpartsofva.com and everything worked fine.
