John Deere a Live pump

I was online and seen a John Deere a that had a 60 governor on it with the live pump and was wondering if that was something that just bolted across? or if there was a lot of work that went into making it work.

The late AR models had that live pump from the factory.

I think a unit from a 60 will fit an A without issue,but I cannot gaurentee it.

If your A is a late one the 60 gov. housing and pump will fit. I have one on my "51 A and it works great. The support for the gas tank/hood has to be made to fit but that was no problem. I also fitted my A, which has a wide front, with the hydrostatic power steering from a 95 square back combine. Quite a bit of work but with the front end loader it works great.

How did you rig up the hydrostatic steering to work on your A? I've always wondered just how it could be done (perhaps under the hood?).

Hey there MISTER, CARLYLE in NY. I discussed with you about jigging up to reinstall FACTORY rivets in plow COULTERS, at NY EXPO remember?? Watched your VIDEO, STINER , clutch rebuild. A hint of help. When installing new cotters in castle nuts we cut away half of the COTTER key and upon inserting we use a screw driver to push in the tail and then leverage up against the nut to set the keys. Simple. Easy to remove also, pair of needle nose and give a pull. Also no cover install issue. Have a good night,CARLYLE

I completely removed the steering shaft/worm gear. The sector gear and shaft were left in place in the front pedestal as a center "idler" for the tie rods.

I mounted the steering wheel and steering motor from the combine on the support above the gear shift quadrant. The steering valve is mounted on the left side of the frame just ahead of the flywheel. I made a mounting bracket for the steering cylinder and bolted that to the underside of the front axle casting. An attaching bracket for the shaft end of the cylinder was welded to the left tie rod, It was all plumbed together with the hydraulic lines and hoses from the combine. Oil for the steering comes from the bypass end of the remote spool that controls the loader. A relief valve is in the pressure line ahead of the steering control valve.
