John Deere A Seat Question

When you order a new seat for a 1948 John Deere A, like I need to do for my tractor, how does it come in regards to the backrest part. In the picture look at the piece that has the John Deere decal on it, does that metal piece come new with the seat cushion set to post right to the frame of the seat? It looks like the cushion part would be riveted on to that piece, will I have to do that then?

Where is the best place to get a new seat that will last?

If you get your seat back from Deere, that metal piece will be part of it. Just two 1/4 bolts thru the tabs on the frame for each side

You can get that seat cushion with the metal back as it was originally from any number of places. You will have to get a new decal though as that doesn't come with it. Try Steiner. I've used theirs and found them to be good. They have them with what is referred to as "original" with the rivet fastening. Then just bolt it on with the quarter inch bolts. It's not cheap though. The bottom cushion you should get from detwilers as they have the thickest ones of anyplace I have got from which on a non float ride is rather important. Just dont get the back from them as it is plywood instead of metal.

The original was not just foam for the bottom. "The seat man" is the only place ive found offering original style with springs (long bow style) in it under the foam. Expensive but worth every penny. He has the backs with the steel also. Super nice stuff.
