John Deere A vs G

I have a 50 John Deere A and have been thinking about getting a G. Is the G geared higher than the A? I know my A has the low first gear unlike the G"s but comparing 2nd to the G"s first or even an older A. If that is so would it be safe to say that a 60hp A would out pull a 60hp G? I had read some where here about the G gearing and thought if that is true I might be better off to invest more in the A and increase the hp and leave the G idea alone. I guess an A would be able to be lighter than a G as well?

I had a 49 A with the fast transmison, power block, cam reground and roller rockers that dynoed 60 hp. A, G with .125 over high compression pistons, flat head, cam reground and roller rockers dynoed 70hp.both tractor had 16.9 x 38 firestone super all traction top cuts. The A would beat the G 80% of the time in 6000 & 6500 4 mile per hr class.

We have a 3 and 5 mph class and it seems that the G's that I see run in the 5 mph and they seem to be running very light and are pretty hot. Most A's run in the slower class and come in all weight classes and power levels.

I think the A does better most of the time because it can be balanced better. Starting with a tractor that weights less.
