John Deere A - What year??

Can someone bracket the year for this John Deere A. Unstyled must be '38 or earlier, right? When did they go from the flat spokes to round spokes? The picture was taken in 1942 and the tractor looks pretty used. No paint. Thank you, Vince

Round spokes for rubber tires flat were for steel wheels

The Unstyled A did not have a upper cultivator ring on the front pedestal until late 1937 so the tractor should be a 1937 or 1938. A parts book will give a serial number break on the front pedestal.

The spark plug wire covers did not come until 1936 or 1937 again the tractor should be 1937 or later.

Thank you very much. I knew I'd get some people with good eyes and knowledge. This was my Grandpop's tractor and I remember it well. I'm surprised it's that late. I was born in '40 and when I knew this tractor it was always kept in the barn. It aged a lot from 38 to 42, when the pic was taken. My Grandpop replaced this A with a 1947 new one.
