John Deere A

[TDJD]

Is there supposed to be grease in the steering gear on a 1947 John Deere A?

[redd1974]

yep

[TDJD]

I thought it was supposed to be oil, but I guess not.

[Mark Poss]

I like corn head grease

[Mike(NEOhio)]

My OP manual says multipurpose hypoid gear oil. Fill to the bottom of the sector gear. All the steering gear I've seen take either SAE 90 or 85W-140.

[ET]

It calls for oil but grease or cornhead grease doesn't leak out.

[Mike(NEOhio)]

They leak when overfilled.
