John Deere A

I am the proud owner of just purchased 1946 A, Ser# 567829, it has a cast slant dash, someone told me that those were a little rare? any help would be appericated.
Also iam completing the 12V. conversion that someone started, i have purchased the alternater, but am having trouble trying to mount it,(old one gone) any ideas?
How do i hookup the amp. meter to registar with a single wire alternater.

Battery post on starter switch on the starter, through the amp. gauge, to the single post on the alternater. You might put a toggle or key switch in line before the amp gauge.

Ron,
I have a 41 slant dash A. All electric start A's up to to 1947 late styled models are slant dash so their not very rare. I converted mine to 12 volt by making a generator from a 12 volt late styled A which are 12 volt fit the slant dash. All the wiring is the same. It takes a little fugging to make the gen fit but it looks nearly original when it's done. Then put in a 12 volt battery with a made up hold down and your all set. I happened to have a late G 12v starter that I put on, but even the original 6v starter will take the 12 volt system if you don't grind on it for long streches. Good luck
