John Deere b crank splines

So I had a noise in my clutch after further inspection of a
broke stud the splines in the clutch are wore pretty bad I can
jump the splines by hand I was wondering if anyone had a
good fix for this or if it's just time to get a new crank and
rebuild the motor

Tell us what year it is or the serial # i have a crank on hand i will sell fits 201000 and up you can call me at 605 270 1844

I have a 46 and the splines were rounded over. I was able to build the splines back up with a mig welder and a good file and new clutch disk. weld a little, file and test fit till it all lined up.

Here is what they look like

It is pretty hard to find a crank for those years that is not like yours ! I think the castle nut made matters worse as people would not get them tight enough so as to get a cotter pin in the slot.
I have an electric start B of that year all restored. It was mostly built from a pile of parts tractors all based on having ONE good crankshaft to start with !

I have formed a tin can shim around the old splines before then was able to get a good or new clutch driver to sort of tighten up in the right spot out far enough. But these might not hold up if used for much work ? I have heard of others that did weld up one at a time and custom fit them and they seemed to work out. Better yet some remove the crank and take it to a machine shop but that has to get expensive.

the only fix for that is replace the crank or repair that one at a machine shop. cheaper to get a good used one.

If you or know someone with a steady hand and a good eye and try and weld at, this point you have nothing to loose. Mine wasn't that bad but close I would give it a try

Thanks for all the replies it's a work tractor for now but now that it's apart it will probably get its new coat of paint the govenor I noticed also needs to be rebuilt so I think I will have to spend time on it does anyone know who still replaces the babbot style bearings on my rods or if there is a better option or kit to switch it to a newer style bearing
