John Deere B pulling problem..carb problem?

I took my 1944 john deere B to a pull this weekend. It has a dltx 34 carb and NGK spark plugs.I pulled 25feet in 1st gear and it fell on its face.I tried adjusting the load needle and nothing happened.Tractor starts and runs fine. I was just wondering where to start and could it be a stopped up nozzle?.Any help?

Sounds like the fuel flow is restricted before it gets to the carburetor. Take the line loose from the carburetor and make sure it runs in a good strong stream and not just a wimpy little trickle.

Take the fuel bowl out of the tank and look REALLY CLOSE. I have a A that would run good at full throttle for about 45 sec. The inlet of the fuel bowl had a piece of sh!@ in it and plugged it off. Tractor ran all day long at 3/4 or less throttle just not at full. Recheck fuel flow at carb for a longer period of time.

If your "B" is "Stock"..it had only 14.03 HP at the DB from the Factory..
With a 2.33 MPH 1st gear...(about the same speed as a JD "G" 1st gear)...

I have seen many Original JD "G" tractors lay down early..
Some models do not do well without some serious Building..

Ron..

I watched two other b take the sled all the way down to the end so I know I should have made it farther. They even tried the sled in another gear and it still did the same.I checked and rechecked the flow of fuel is good.Gas tank is clean, new sediment bowl and valve, screen is clean..Im guessing ill have to pull the carb back apart and do a complete rebuild.Has anyone heard of putting a dltx67 on a mid model B?

The average "built" JD B is making 60+HP. The bigger ones much more than that.

Your tractor may be performing at it"s max capacity OR there could be something wrong.

Do you have access to a pto dyno for tuning?

Sounds like you might have do trial and error till you find the issue.

I've resorted to dragging heavy stuff around the yard or taking off fast in road gear to help make adjustments.

A DLTX-34 and DLTX-67 share the same main fuel nozzle and same size throttle disc, so I wouldn't look for too much improvement there. Some other things to check: governor adjustment, stopped up air cleaner; poor ignition; valve lash too tight;
According to "Mr Thinker" your B should be 20 HP at 1150 RPM.

after checking that you have no restrictions, you may want to install an electric fuel pump. Thay are about $30 from local parts store for an inline 5-9lbs will insure the carb is not running out of fuel under the load a sled puts on it.
This really made a difference on my Allis, I still have a stock size engine, this doubled my distances on the local sleds I was pulling on.

just my 2 cents.
