john deere b rear end

finally im makin progress on rebuilding the transmission and rear end on my 1939 B and now im trying to set the tightness on the bull gear and the axles. my question is how tight should they be? I can pull on them pretty firm at the bull gear and theyll roll through pretty good but at the outer end of the axle I cant turn them easy at all unless I put a wrench on it! I tried backing the nut off a little more but then the bull gear seems loose! is this ok or should I loosen it a little more? could someone please help or at least get me pointed in the right direction! Thanks for any advice given!

If you can turn them through from the bull gear end they should be ok. They would be harder to turn from the other end. That's the same as turning a gear box from the output shaft. If you think they're too tight, smack them on the end with something heavy and see if they loosen up a little.
