John Deere D carburetor

Hello, I have a couple questions about carburetors on John Deere D's. Me and a buddy purchased a 1940 styled D over the summer and have battled carburetor issues since we've had it. A guy at our local show mentioned it had the wrong carb on it, one from an earlier unstyled since it's all brass. We got this carb dialed in as close as we can get put still have major issues with it and want to put the correct carb on hopefully by plow day in a couple weeks. From what iv been able to Google it's supposed to have a DLTX16 on it? I was wondering if anyone could help confirm this or if there's another variation it's supposed to have since it's an all fuel? And any leads on carbs would be greatly appreciated. I'll attach pictures of what's on it now. Thanks-Jacob.

Welcome to yesterdays tractors! I also have a 40D that I purchased at an auction this summer. I was informed that it wasn't the original carb either. My tractor is located 90 miles away otherwise I would check to see what I actually have. According to the book I have serial numbers 128111-161644 used DLTX-16 carbs which should cover the the 40D production. I had mine rebuilt by Sandhill Carbs in Winger,Mn. His phone number is (218)902-0179 or [email protected]. Get ahold of him I know he can help you. Tom in Mn.

The 1940 Model D started at serial number 146500 -148871 The Model D used a DLTX16 for all model D Between SN# 128111-161644, The Brass carb you're talking about is on the early model D sn#49774-109943 they used the DLTX3 which was all cast bronze

If you need a carburetor rebuilt, feel free to look me up & give me a call

Thank you! Glad I'm not the only one lol. I was told they put a new carb on and just couldn't get it adjusted right. It'd help if it was the right one lol. I'll send that fellow an email now.
