John Deere G High Torque Starter

Looking for a part number for a gear reduction starter for a 1950 John Deere G. Is there a starter from a newer tractor that will fit? Heard that a 4020 starter will fit? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have my G here right now, it is at my brother's place. Ask on the puller's board, I put one on mine that is for a diesel skid loader, but I don't remember the make or number of it. That has probably been 8 or 10 years ago. It has a solenoid to give you "push button" starting, plus bolts right up (Correct rotation, and drive gear).

This is a lighter duty version that will work if your running a stock engine. They have a heavier duty one but I would have to get that number off mine tomorrow or google the number for more info.

Mike An older man in Muskogee fixed these for us but has passed away. Used a Dodge Cummins starter and changed the gear from a 12 tooth to 10 tooth. Cranks the big John Deere easily. Cutting the flange down so flywheel cover will bolt up. Lynn
