John Deere GREEN

Been doing some work for a local farmer on his 350 chevy pickup. I just got the engine back from the machine shop and had to paint it.

I went for the engine enamel i use (black or orange, blue) and saw my jd paint.

I was so tempted to spray that motor JD Green!!!

Could you have imagined the look on the guys face when he pop'd the hood when he got home!

Maybe IH 2150?? I am an IH man afterall. Tell him i painted it RED to give it some power. Ha!

I should do it....should i?....

Welllll, kinda depends on how particular the man is. Think I would make a call and see what he prefers. However, IF he has a sense of humor------

All depends on how touchy of a guy he is!! I painted cars and pickups years ago and I always painted the trailer hitches Texaco green and the spare tires on the pickups half black and half white, nobody ever used them anyway, just laid in the box and got rusty, but they sure looked funny when some one did bolt it on. When someone would ask why I just told them that was my trademark. I will leave that decision to you.. Do It!!

Had a fellow years ago in town that liked to chisel everybody down on their price. Went to the local body shop to get his car painted once and did the same thing and when he got it back it had been painted. Windows, crome, headlights, wipers, wheels, tires, door handles and all.

It's a good joke, but I'd ask the owner first before changing the color unless he has already played a similar practical joke on you. Be ready to give a discount on your work if owner feels it reduces his trade-in value.

Green or red doesn't matter. Used car dealers will likely balk at paying book value for a non-standard vehicle because it raises a big flag could reduce the value of the truck in the eyes of most potential buyers.

How old is the truck and what is it's current book value? If the rebuild engine is worth as much as the rest of the truck it may go over better. Would you paint the back of the fan blades yellow too?

Its a fuel truck, just for planting and harvest.
Engine will outlast this truck and is worth 3 times what the trucks worth.

Its a 1990 chevy 1 Ton 2wd. It would be funny cause the family is HUGE deere fans. 4th Generation farmers. Lots of land and their good at it. We are friends with their family. Its a you help me i help you job.

Paybacks are hell thou,

If tha's the case then he'd probably get a kick out of a green engine. Although paybacks are hell as you say.

Since he is a JD fan and it dosn't hurt the value of the truck I'd use the green paint too.

Maybe call the guy and tell him I only have IH red engine paint left, JD green is out of stock, he may offer to bring you some JD green paint to use.

A friend of mine had to have the tranny rebuilt in his Silverado several years ago. He didn't trust the shop very much so he painted the sides and bottom neon green so he could be sure they rebuilt it and didn't swap it out. Now that was weird.

that wouldn't be easy fix if he hated it friend or no friend. i did one one time when assemble new kinze planter for dealer and new the buyer.he was ornery cuss so i played payback with the moniter setup when installing/programing it lets just say his planter had rows located all over the place and was 24 row unit 24 was middle 1 was two rows over etc etc really messed up. it was funny when he called dealer and asked coul anybody count, dealer already new i done it,cause they new i would fix it,but it sure made me feel goood and all got goood laugh out of it. he still to this day says learn count yet.he was in my shop years so later just bullsh*tting and when i went use my pickup, yea he had everything in it turnon and full volume. ran into him few days later said can you hear, have clean windshield. makes life more enjoyable.

Green people have a sickness. You might as well feed it.

If it is not RED it is Dead. Ha Ha Starting to love them all. Be neat to have one of every color. PLEASE do not let my wife see this posting.

Now that brings back memories. Many many years ago I overhauled a 6 cylinder engine in my 57 chevy. I shared a garage with a jokester who worked at John Deere. He told me he would paint the engine the day before I installed it so it would be good to go. The next day I walked into the garage and sure enough there sat the engine all covered in JD green. I did repaint it before I installed it.
