I am looking to buy my Mother-in-laws GX-345 since she is in a Nursing Home. It is a 2002 bought new with approx. 300 hrs. My brother -in-law has run it and has had some problems. This week he said it stopped while mowing and would not start,. After about a 1/2 hr it started ,& ran good . It also had some solenoid problems over the years. It is kept in a garage when not used and has been maintained. Any experience out there with this model? My 1991 Wheelhorse is still going very strong after 20 years. Comments appreciated. Thanks

a gx 345 is a great tractor u will love it
Im a jd tech an there are no major problems with them
the stall out on your relitive is most likly a bad TDC module
There aroung 25 bucks or so an easy to install
Good Luck on your choice Gary

Chevy65---Thanks for the info. I don't want to appear to Dumb, but what is a TDC module? My old wheelhorse does not have any of the new stuff. Thanks

Time delay module. That is what keeps the mower running after you hit a big bump and you bounce off of the seat.

That is the last good one they made in that size. The X540 that replaced it is a piece of junk compared to it. A good low hour GX345 will bring very good money. Early one without diff lock will bring $3500-up and late ones with diff lock $4000-up.

I would change the spark plugs first. The two cylinder Kawasaki"s will foul spark plugs if they are run below 3600 while mowing. I also have been getting some bad plug problems more often this last year or so. If that does not fix it then I would suggest the time delay module just like the others. If I remember right it is located behind the battery. On the side of the steering mount. Get the new one and it looks just like the old one. They had some problems for a while with them.

John deere seller, Thanks for the info, also Chevy 65. What plugs do you recommend? I know with my old 2-cyl. Deeres the Autolites seem to work better than Champions. Thanks again for the help.

I worked for a John Deere dealer for many years. The 300 series is a nice line of lawn equipment. The water cooled Kawasaki engine will be in need of more maintenance than any other model.I think the other models with an air cooled engine will do u justice.I would bet my best friend that there are many more air cooled machines running.with fewer problems than that damn water cooled junk Deere sold.I know because i worked on em!
