Oh, my... things look pretty tired. There is at least one missing ball in the thrust bearing, the governor weights are worn out (should have perfectly radiused ends on the arms that contact the thrust bearing, and the fan drive gear is severely worn. Might be time to see if you can find a complete new governor and fan shaft assembly in better shape. On the other hand, there isn't anything there that can't be replaced individually.

I have a governor housing you can have. I think it's an earlier one. Those bearings are about impossible to find. The tips on my flyweights are worn like that as well as the fork. Where are you located? PM me if interested.

Thank you Mike. I think the housing will be ok. Steiner shows both bearings, weights and the pins. I'll try to get the gear pressed off the shaft and see if it's reusable. I'm near Magnolia, TX.

The fanshaft gear is not reusable. Take Mikes governor housing.

Steiner is selling a tapered roller and adapter sleeve. Probably a good solution. I needed bearings for mine and planned the same solution as Dan did. The housing I have I bought for the fork. I could see one side that looked good but when I got it home I found the other end was worse than the one I had. The gears were all toast so I figure $30 down the drain. It was heavy with old oil and when I ckeaned it out I found the bearings were pretty good, so worth it. You might try Daryl at EZ Bearing in Pa. I got new steering gear bearings from him. 717 568-8800

I doubt it would be anything you would notice. Mine are a bit worse that that.

Just in case you were having trouble sleeping, I found the culprit. The governor drive gear key was sheared.

Probably happened just after the splines twisted. I could use a new gear for mine.
