John Deere HD-10 Baler

I have a Friend looking for what he thinks is a John Deere HD-10 Baler that make a bale 12 inches wide x 10 inches tall and 18 inches long. Is this the right model number baler that will make this size of bale? Are there any JD balers that make this size bale around in working order?

My dad worked at the local JD dealership for 28 years. I remember JD demoing a baler as you describe here and I think it was a model 10. Maade small compact bales. Didn't catch on here as farmers wanted to handle less bales rather than more. I live in Central Washington, I don't know where the baler went from here. I assumed it was a trial that did not work out.

Those bales were suppose to weigh as much as a regular size bale so in effect you would have less bales to handle not more.

They were the No 10 High Density baler. Made 10x15 bales. They are rare baler and if I was your friend I would grab it.

Bales were lighter than usual ones, but more compact. Perhaps Deere's timing was just too early. I have been told someone on the west side of Washington has built or modified a baler to do the same thing the 10 did. Popular with horse people there.

I have a running John Deere model 10 high density baler for sale. Baler is totally complete, has the central lubrication option--but to use this lubrication system-- the plastic linew will have to be replaced. There are several broken, and they are brittle. Baler runs smooth, baled a few bales a few years ago, been setting idle since.
The down sides-- the needle carrier bar evidently collected moisture inside and ffoze. It cracked. Can be easily welded-just decided not to do it--because a welding on a machine looks so bad.
The plunger rod has been welded-sometime in the past-before I acquired the baler 15 or so years ago. Good job welding-- I didn't notice it until I was taking pics of the baler. Also have the high flotation attachment (I think--it is a set to duals that fit the hub on the baler- and have the operators manual.
Have pics and a video of the baler running-let me know if any would like to view!
According to the information I can gather--JD only made a few hundred of these little jewels in 63,64 and maybe 65.
Just don't need it anymore--and am thinning the collection herd a bit!

Thanks!

I highly doubt you're anywhere near me (central Ontario), but if you were, I'd likely be interested. I've always liked the idea of the compact balers. A former coworker (and member on here) runs a NH compact 65, and a neighbour to our one farm had a Ford baler that made the same small bale size as the compact 65. Both say they can sell the smaller bales for about the same price given the right market - certain horse people and small animal owners like the small, light, convenient size.

I always liked the idea of the Deere #10 best, as it was a little smaller and a little rarer (and a little greener) than the other compact models. I thought it might even be handy on some of our really steep hills, where the smaller baler and lighter bales wouldn't be so irksome to haul around. But unfortunately I don't think any ever made their way to this area.

If you are trying to sell it you should put an ad in the Classifieds. You will find that section if you click on the down arrow to the right of Marketplace in the banner at the top of the page.
