John Deere Hydrostatic Transmission

I have a John Deere model 317 tractor that I use
for plowing snow in my driveway. Does anyone know the name, and model number of the transmission used
on that machine?

Thank you for the help.

John i believe the 317 was born with a Sundstrand model 90-1007 Deere part # AM37775.Which subs to Sundstrand model 90-1216 Deere part # AM39998 offered as a substitution.Neither of which is available anymore.Hope this helps.

Thank you. That is a lot of help indeed. I recently repaired the engine on my 1982 model 317 tractor that had a broken camshaft, governor, and 1 broken tappet. As it is getting much harder to get some parts on these fine old machines, i.e. the camshaft. I decided to get a spare Kohler engine, and also a hydrostatic transmission. Used of course. And then to rebuild them, just in case. I have the engine, next I will buy the used transmission in the spring. I have a lead on one that will be available.

On a side note, the wife, and I stopped in North Carolina last year on vacation.

Thanks again for the information. John
