John Deere L Hitch

I bought a JD L that was taken apart many years ago. I am putting it back together. I cannot figure out how the hitch attaches to the frame.
If you could post a photo or something that will locate it for me. I have some photos but none that show that detail.

Thank you,
Dan

I will talk to my friend later to see if his has a hitch.
That is the one I rebuilt the engine on 2 years ago.

You can look at www.jdparts.com, Look under Model L and on page 73 it shows the hitch assembly. By using Google you can find pictures of the Model L. It looks like the assembly attaches to the final drives with the pivot assembly facing towards the rear, not down as in your photo.

Your wide angle iron on the front end of the drawbar attaches to the tractors final drives at front, left and right under the tractor. You are missing the large flat steel bracket that mounts at rear of tractor on to the two round main frame pipes. This bracket holds up the rear part of the drawbar by its roller.

Yep Jim is correct.

Daniel, I talked with my friend that has the L that I rebuilt.
His hitch is just like yours.
I am going up the mountain next week and will get photos if you want me to.
He can't send photos from his phone.
He is so isolated in the hills, it is a wonder he has a phone signal at all.
And many times he does not.

That would be great if he can get some photos of how the hitch bar is mounted to the tractor frame.
Thank you.

I have the same page 73 and have all that assembly. The Google photos that I can find do not show how the long crossbar mounts to the frame. That is what I am looking for.

I have the large flat steel bracket but it is not pictured. I do not see how the wide angle iron attaches to the final drives which I understand to mean the tubular frame from the tractor.

The tubular frame is not the final drives. The final drives are what the wheels are attached to. The final drives are attached to the tubular frame. The drawbar is attached to the front of the final drives, probably a lower bolt hole. Use Google for John Deere Model L and find pictures of a Model L.

OK, that helps. I can find no pictures that show the attachment details. I will check it out when I get to my work area.
Thank you,
Dan

I did discover where the drawbar connects to. It is as you say on the front of the final drives. I added a photo of one of the locations for the bolt. Other side of the tractor is the same.
Thank you.

Finally Dan.
I don't get up on the mountain often anymore.
I hope these photos help.
It appears this hitch has been strengthened in the past.
