The original subject was "john deere LA magneto timing".

I'm having the same problem in timing my LA. The inpulse comes and the DC line is well past the viewing window. Did you find a solution for our problem?

The L-series are a real pain in the neck to time corretly, because it is hard to get the gears to mesh in the right place. I just have to keep trying and checking (takes a lot of time, or maybe it's just me), but when you get the impulse at the stated place, you will be happy at the way it starts and runs. Put no. 1 cyl at top w/mark, hold the rotor at about 8 o'clock, and ease the gears into mesh, then check impulse. Sometimes it takes me a dozen trys to get it right.
