Recently purchased a grist mill that is powered by a John Deere LUC engine. Understand the engine was originally designed to power a John Deere R12 combine. Read somewhere that most of these engines were built by Hercules. Can anyone verify?

I google search indicates the early L tractor used Hercules. Check it out. Uncles 12A I'm pretty sure had a JD LUC.
