John Deere Manure Spreader ID?

Picked up this spreader today out of Oklahoma. Trying to ID it so to pickup replacement chain. Couple other things.

Need the side chain that spins the rear throwers.

I m not real worried about rebuild to be a shower. I plan to use it daily.

I wanted to grab some side boards and flors today. All they have at my local box store in 1" thick and more than the 13 length is 1 in. x 6 in. x 16 ft. #2 Rough Pressure-Treated Board.

Floor thinking of using plywood.

Should I wait on wood and shop a lumber yard or trim place?

Could also be an R, the bigger version of the L. Hard to tell them apart sometimes in pictures. The R's used the single handle control lever like in the picture. I haven't seen an L that didn't have two separate levers . . . but later production examples could have been made that way.

Well, after perusing some old information, both the R and the L used the two lever arrangment until 1960 and after that until whenever they quit making them, they had that single pipe with the control linkages inside it. So I apparently have never seen a late L or an early R!

I ll check out tomorrow some pics and measurements and see which I have. The floor is 13 long boards. 40" wide.

What s the best way to determine the size teeth for the back beaters missing the top chain?

It appears from viewing model R parts catalog due to type of levers to engage the ground drive that your spreader was built after 1961. Upper beater drive chain had 45 links of A2050 chain which is 1-1/4'' double pitch chain.

Thanks so much. What about PNs for 19-24. Seems to be missing that as well.

From the reading I ve done so far I wonder if the top beater is needed? I spread very saturated pinewood shavings and horse manure. I ll be filling it 3-4x daily for the operation I run starting Saturday 2/25.

I had an MS1105 last year when I had horses in the barn. We d fill it 5-8x per day. It was sold during the divorce. But it only has one lower beater. Never and any issues.

I would use UHMW plastic for the floor it doesn't rot nor warp and the floor will slide easier. It can be had in sheets big enough to do the entire floor in one piece. Could also use it on the sides. I know a guy in SD uses it in his trucks for cleaning feed lots out.

I don't know the type of plastic but an Amish friend that builds new horse drawn spreaders uses it in building the new spreaders and they are usually setting outside.

Dad had an R spreader, an early one with the two levers, around 1964 I started hauling ALL the manure, Dad would load and I'd haul. By about 1967 or '68 I'd load AND haul. The R spreader was pretty narrow, short too but you could pile the load on it pretty high of the manure wasn't wet.
Neighbor I worked for had two #44 Deere spreaders, one I used the most had 3 beaters like that R, other one I liked best had the one big drum beater. The 44 was longer, wider, could really load them up.

That s awesome. It ll be going down this aisle daily. We typically fill a large bucket with manure next to each stall and dump them. Spread in the pasture when full.

I d like to see if a Honda 250 4wheeler can pull it. Since the divorce she took the kubota RTV900 and the spreader. I m starting from scratch on a shoestring budget.
