John Deere model B pistons

With number 1 piston installed with the "1" to the top there is a hole in the bottom side of the piston behind the oil ring.

Is this hole to force oil to lubricate the piston pin?

The piston pin is pressure fed through the drilled connecting rod. I don't know about the hole in the piston. Are they JD or after market?
