john deere model GM

I am looking at a used tractor model G, on the serial tag the model is shown as GMxxxxx. I am a little confused by this, can someone help ? thanks

The GM was the first styled version of the G. It was styled during WW2. Deere could not raise the price on current models, so they created the GM and that allowed them to raise the price. After the war, it went back to the G. Some of the early Styled G's, (after the GM) still had pan seats and the batteries in front of the valve cover.

I took me 30 seconds to find the answer here for you. If you look in the archives, many common questions are answered, so here is your answer.

It is one of the first styled Gs. they had to change the model during the war so they couled have there price increase to cover the cost of the improvements. They started at #13000. what is your Serial number? After the war Deere called them G again. Easy to spot because of the pan seat instead of the square seat.
