John Deere Model H exhaust

I have a muffler and exhaust pipe for the Model H = the exhaust pipe fits loosely in the muffler with not apparent seal - is this correct?

I have a H with the muffler broke off the mount. Need to take hood off to get too it for replacement or repair but I cant see how get the muffler loose from the top of the hood. Are you saying yours is loose enough that you could remove the muffler? Looks to be difficult to remove the hood with muffler in place the way it is notched around steering shaft> Cleddy

Take the steering shaft out to remove the hood.
OP was talking about the connection between the exhaust pipe and muffler input being loose.
