John Deere R wins again!!

Howdy folks,

Had to share a picture with ya this morning. Dad came home last night from hauling propane with his truck. Turned her around like usual and backed into the driveway, but then just sat there. I went out to look and see what was going on and lo and behold, here sat the truck in the yard across the road with nothin but soupy mud under it. Stuck! So this morning I went down to the barn, fired up the old R and chained her up to the trailer. Dad got in the truck and started backin while I pulled with the tractor. The old R pulled her right out. The only issue I had was a little hopping early on but it still pulled. Found out from dad later that for a while I was pulling that thing with all the wheels locked. The brakes hadn’t released yet. Just can’t stick an old two cylinder. God bless.

Yea, that R is a heavy rascal. We weighed an R and my 4440 I had back in the 80's and the R was 3 or 400 pounds heavier than the 4440.

That weight sure comes in handy. We figured it up and when those brakes were locked I was dragging a dead weight of about 40,000 pounds. God bless.

Thanks for showing the picture!! That goes to show you that just because you have alot of wheels doesn't mean you can go any where you want! LOL.. Them ol BIG two cylinders are something else. Kind of like a tank on wheels!

Wow

40,000 dead weight. You must have had one heck of a chain. A 3/8 chain is only rated for 7,800. Maybe it was made from space age steel....

heckuva lot easier to pull something sliding in mud vs. dragging on asphalt. Still a good pull though. Makes ya wanna bring it to the local pull next season though...
