John deere R

Wiguy1

I have a john deere R and it is getting engine oil in the transmission
oil. Any ideas or help on what could be causing this is appreciated!

Had an 830 do that, turned out to be the power shaft drive which comes off the flywheel side of the engine. Not sure if an R and the 830 share this components.

John Deere R and 830 are the same... In the timing gear housing behind the
flywheel, the seal on the power shaft drive gear shaft is bad... Labor intense to fix.

Just fill the transmission with engine oil . Drain a quart every once and a while and add back into to the engine .

thank you! i did replace the rh crank seal but did not make any difference. It goes thru about 2-3 quarts of oil in 1.5 hours of run time so it is a substantial leak.

any chance you have a manual with a pic of what this looks like? I think i found it on the r manual... way down on the bottom of side.
