We have the same 1963 4140 w/ 723 hoe. I believe I remember reading you retro-fit a larger 36" bucket on that hoe. The larger buckets (not a stock size?)are hard to find (if they exist) and I figure you found something else that was close and modified it to fit.I know finding any stock bucket is almost impossible. I'm looking to get a 36" bucket. I have the 12" and the 24" that came with the 723. What is close that I can modify to fit? Thanks

I found a craigslist deal for a 36" bucket for 90 bucks. It was from a Deere 310. It took a couple hundred to have spacers welded in and bushing fitted. Not bad. I did have to give some love to the cutting edge and add new teeth. Here's some pictures of my buckets. I also have a 24" that is waiting for some love.

I am pretty sure that if you find a Ford 555 bucket you will just need to rebush to the 723 pin size. It's I think 1" or 1 1/4" on the 723 vs the 1 1/2" ir 1 3/4"on the 555.

The Deere 310 bucket I have is pretty light construction. But, it holds about 8-10 cu ft. It is a LOAD when full of wet sand/clay. Can be tippy on soft soils too. But WOW, does it dig fast! Best project for productivity.
