I recently acquired my past grandfathers Jubilee upon transporting it from the wrecker station to my house, which is about a mile mile and a half I had and fourth gear, moving at a good steady pace all of a sudden the rear end locked up and stalled upon rocking tires back-and-forth rocking the clutch for a second it disengaged and I continued on in first gear went a while seemed OK moved up into fourth gear again, on level ground, it did it again repeated what I did on the first time ended up driving the rest of the way in first gear home now there is a slight noise not sure what s going on. I m new to the tractor world. I looked in the gear site port I can see some oil in the bottom, but not a lot look in the transmission side same as well, can you guys help? Am I too low on fluid? I ordered a manual yesterday from www.Farmtractorsrepairs. thank you.

Just a WAG I would say something is wrong in the differential area of the tractor. Could be a bearing or gear. Certainly check the oil as engaged gears will swell due to heat from lack of oil. Bearings will seize due to lack of oil. Unscrew the caps for the transmission and final drive and have a look to what you have or lack.

Even if the transmission oil is low, it's not your problem. It may have caused the problem, but it won't fix the problem.

Unfortunately there's no one "smoking gun" thing that causes your specific problem. It will require some disassembly of the tractor, possibly MAJOR disassembly, to determine what is wrong. There could be a piece of metal getting kicked up and jamming the gears. There could be a bad bearing somewhere. There could be any of 100's of causes. The only way to determine what the problem is, is to look.

The early Jubilee's had a problem with the cross pin in the diff. coming out and locking up the rearend, yours could be one of those I can't remember the solution the factory came up with but it seemed like it was something like peening the ends over or tack welding.

It might be a long shot, but before you tear into anything drastic I would look at the brakes first. I had two Fordsons that would lock up when you were either boogeying along in road gear or coasting at speed. Both times it was the brake springs being stretched/broken and not sucking the shoes back. At speed they would catch hard for some reason. No idea why it was only at high speeds, but it was an identical problem & fix for both tractors.

thank you so much for your comment I really appreciate it I will definitely check that out to first I DO KNOW it s breaks are pretty much nonexistent so I may have metal in metal binding up
