A couple of weeks ago the coil on my 640 conked out, so I refreshed all the ignition components. It runs much better now, which I attribute to replacing the Champ H 10 plugs with Autolite 437's, replacing the carbon core wires with copper, and getting rid of the 6 volt coil and it's resistor.
My neighbor who was helping me clean up some wind damage when my tractor quit, said his Jubilee needed the same attention, and a convert to to 12 volts. I told him what parts to get and he showed up yesterday with everything including a pre packaged tune up kit. I hate to bash a business, so I won't mention their name, but the parts in that packaged kit are junk. The points are flimsy, and do not have a lube wick, so we opted to clean and reuse the old ones. The rotor won't go on the distributor shaft. I tried it without the clip and it was still to tight. The distributor cap, which was not part of a kit but bought at the same place, would not locate properly on the distributor. It was the right diameter, but the lugs allowed about 5 degrees of slop in location. My neighbor bought the parts while visiting his daughter in another state, which made returning them impossoble for now. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with prepackaged ignition parts?
