Jubliee carbuerator problem

Hello guys,

I was trying to start my NNA Jubilee after checking points and plug gaps. Was getting good spark and after about two minutes of cranking the carbuertor back fired, had the fuel flow open two turns.

Had the air cleaner hose off the carb. at the time.

So loud it made me spill my coffee. lol

Thinking I did a bad job rebuilding the Carb.? Just not sure?

Just a loud back fire, no fire present.

Floats had no fuel in them, old floats but seemed good so I re used them.

Any intakes stuck? No sure what you mean.

Oh! I had choke closed if that had anything to do with it?

I think by what you say about the carbs floats,....that you may be missing the point about the carb floats, that SouNdguy is trying to tell you.

If you have a backfire through the CARB, that usually means that the floats are now, imploaded!!!, and you need to find out before ya try to start the engine again.
ALSO, if ya had the choke closed, or maybe had the sparkplugs out of the cap and not reinstalled correctly, that would mean a possible out-of-time fireing of a cyl. that can cause backfireing or afterfireing!

I'm going to open up the Carb. tomorrow and check it out. I'm sure about the points setting and plug gaps. Pulled a plug still look new no moisture.

Was carful to keep same order when installing new distributor cap.

Watched the points fire when cranking the tractor, very nice spark.

Spark good as in what. Blue/white and will it jump a 1/4 inch gap or more???? Back fire well that can be many things and if all is right you should not need to the choke unless real cold out and I do not think that is the case.

Wow! So much that I don't know about my Jubliee.

Didn't know about a spark jumping a 1/4" nor the color of a spark, reckon that's all important and has meaning. Gonna check the firing order of the plugs and timing also after I have another look see inside the Carb.

I know I must look like a rookie in these matters but I'm learning. lol
When I was a kid in WV the only thing they taught us in school was the three "R's" Readen, Righten and Route 29 north to get the hell out of there and out of the Coal Mines.

I got me a labor construction job in Alexandria VA making 90 cents an hour back then but when the boss fround out I could run a Jubliee he gave me the job and move me to $1.10 cents an hour, been in love with the Jubilee from 1957 and on. Just gotta learn more than the three "R's" I reckon. lol

Hey Kid, we always heard up here in Central Ohio the 3 Rs were readin', 'ritin' and Rt. 23 (to Columbus). Guess it depend where you are outside of WV. Beautiful state, but I guess not enough good jobs to keep folks there.

Took the Carb. apart today and all looks fine, just a little black smokey area from backfire. Put the floats in a pan of water, they are good.

Gotta check the timing and get the frist plug hole lined up with the marks on the flywheel. Need to do more reading, never done that before.

Any advice on doing that?
