jump start 6 volt from 12 volt

I am getting ready to try and get my 6 volt 1951 model B tractor started after about 5 years. I used to jump directly to the starter with 12 volts, but can not remember how I did it. It has a magneto. Any other advice appreciated, fresh gas, ect.

It"s a positive ground, so the neg goes to the starter. Will spin it faster than a 6V.

take the cables off the 6 volt battery. Set the 12 v battery next to starter on the ground. Ground on terminal to the frame (5/8 inch starter bolt anchor). Jump the other terminal onto the starter switch stud. WHen you push the starter rod, the tractor will crank. Lights will not be effected, and mag does not need current to start.

Well since you have a mag you can do it the easy way and not cause your self a head ache or any other problems. Simply pull the 6 volt battery and set the 12 volt in its place. Start the tractor and then set to 6 volt battery back in so it can charge up. One thing you NEVER do is hook a 12 volt battery to a 6 volt one with jumper cable or you might never see any thing again due to the fact you can cause the 6 volt battery to explode in your face

Whenever jump starting, always make the last connection AWAY from the battery for the reason Old says. Beyond that, no problem.
