Just bought another Yanmar.

I just picked up another Yanmar. It’s In decent shape and has some parts I needed to finish my 165d build. The one I picked up is a 155d that the seller said won’t start and has a bent crank. Is there a way to tell if the crank is bent without removing it?

I don't think I have ever heard of a Yanmar with a bent crank before. Not really even sure how you would do that but I'm sure <I><s></s>where there's a will there's a way<e></e></I>. <E></E> . I'm not really sure how you could tell it was bent unless it went to a machine shop or something.

The lady I purchased it from said her son rebuilt the engine awhile back. I think she’s right because the tool box welded on the fender has a set of rings still in the Hoya tractor plastic. I’m going to give it a going over and then try to turn it over before I disassemble.

If the crank is bent very much I would think the pistons might hit the head or maybe they are hitting the head and that is why they think the crank is bent.

Any idea how much the piston comes out of the jug at tds or should it be flush? Pic of my 165d I’m about done with.

I remember there was a post a few years ago about piston protrusion but I can't remember what was decided. I don't see it mentioned anywhere in any of the manuals. They show liner protrusion but not anything about the piston.

Just got home and turned over with the fan pretty easy, didn’t hear or feel anything hitting. I then did the same to one of my running ones and it was somewhat harder to turn. My guess is that it’s been ran hot and quit.
