K181 ring thickness

I purchased a set of rings (0.010 over)for the K181 I am working on. The old rings have a thickness of 0.083". The new ones measure 0.062". When I placed the new ring in the groove to measure side clearance, the difference was very apparent. The new ones are supposedly from a Kohler 4110802 package. I don't know the manufacturer of the piston only that it is marked .010 on the top.

Some Kohler parts lists use "early" and "late" for their ring description. It depends on which piston the engine was built with. I am thinking the .083 is the 'early' and .062 is 'late'. You need the correct rings for your piston. I know from experience they won't run long with too much side clearance before they break a ring.
