k301 motor

Been having trouble with kohler 12 hp motor. Was venting pressure thru carb. Ground valves and found burnt piston. Still had the problem. After all was said and done I found the muffler plugged up. Was mowing last night after about an hour and a half it siezed up. I had the oil hole on the rod end toward camshaft. and all clearances checked ok. Any ideas what might have caused failure?

sounds like its running lean
was it running hot

Did not run hot at all. Things were very normal.
