RB, just FYI on this new software if you place the “at” in front of a members username it will notify them through email if they have it turned on or the internal “alert” system when they sign in. Like this @kevinj54 When you start typing after you place the @ his username will pop up to select. Not sure if that works in a Thread title or not. He was shown as viewing the forum at 7:25 this morning, so he either did not see your post or chose not to reply.

Nope, it took over a year to sell the last batch of 6 plus I have had trouble finding a good leather worker after mine passed on.

I could check with the guy that made the last ones to see if he would sew another batch up.

I would take 2, if that helps. Thanks

I put a call in to the shoe guy to see if still has the leather and get current cost.

I think last ones I put on epay were about $79.00 due to higher sewing cost & higher seller fees.

I can sell to you direct for a bit less by dropping out the seller fees.

It is hard to find a leather worker here anymore, they need a patch machine to sew these and we have very few shoe repair places left here.

There is a shop in Charlotte, Charlotte Shoe & Leather Repair, that advertises on the radio around Lansing. In listening to their adds, I bet they could do it. I have no idea what they would charge.

OK, he has leather in stock & will make some up.

I have to get the patterns over to him plus waiting for them to be made so it will be prolly be 3 weeks or so.

Sounds good. I have a question. I have the manual I purchased from Steiner's. How important are the felt washers, as shown in the illustration?

Are you talking by the bearing inside??

I will have to look at my book.

It should be easy to get a piece & cut 1 out if needed.

There is 48r behind 25r to keep grease off the clutch disks.

and 36r outside of 30r

they just seal both sides of bearings to keep grease where it belongs.

I would just cut some felt & put them in, I figure if they put them in then the should be put back.

As far as I recall they are bout 1/8 thick & match the steel retainers for diameter.

I will have to get some felt. As far as the big thrust bearing, the one I have isn't very good. The old one measures approx. 0.90" thick. I can get a new bearing, but it will be 1.00" thick. Do you think that will work?

It will have to work as the right one is no longer available. Just to be clear we are talking .100 or so.

Maybe some other parts can be machined down to make some of it up.

Maybe have the clutch disks thinned a few thou??

Yes, .100. I will get the new bearing and go from there. I think the other parts could be machined if necessary. Do you know if there is anyone making the fibre discs? The ones I have will work for now, but some new ones would make me feel better.

Not seeing or knowing what the leather shape is could you use a strip of leather and then just rivet it together for a seal /boot. As for the felt I would depending on diameter use a section of an oil furnace filter they are fairly stiff and can be worked out in diameter of the center hole to about an inch and a half by pulling at the felt while turning in your hand. I worked one out to fit the spindle vertical on a 1466 once. I just split off a section of the layer from one of the segments that best suited my need. IT was an old used one that I used but a new one would also work sncew you are putting it inside of a transmission.
