killing wild onion

The coop said glyphosate would do the trick but guess what survived when everything else died? So, now I have a really nice stand of Timothy and onions. Any ideas what would kill the onion but leave the Timothy unaffected? Im planning to have 2,4D applied for the creeping broad leaf weeds but Im not sure thatll so anything to the onions. Id like to get all the weeds in a single pass.

If there are no sensitive crops around (tobacco, soybeans, tomatoes, the neighbor's flowers) use the ester formulation rather than the amine formulation. Much better on wild garlic. Probably will have to spray several years in a row to get it under control.

I don't think there is anything harder to get rid of than onions. If you kill one there are more bulbs waiting to sprout and if you kill the bulbs there are seeds waiting to sprout.Fortunately they hate heat so if you get them knocked down early it will at least get you through the season. They don't seem to like cultivation either. I have a small corn field that was white with onion bulbs in some sections the 1st time I plowed the field. Many of the bulbs shriveled up and died with out sprouting. I did Round up, corn and 2,4-D for several years and the field is now free of onions. Got to get them when they are little as grown onions will survive a nuclear blast. Worst thing that can happen is to have them go to seed and get into your hay - it just spreads them further with the manure.
