knowledge is worth sharing but.....

I also read the whole discussion before replying. That's why I don't reply very often. No need to say the same thing that's been said five times or more already.

Very good post Mike. I too come here for knowledge. I try to help out when i think my input would be of some help. Its better to ask a STUPID question than to make a STUPID mistake.

Good post Mike. I come to y t to learn and for entertainment. I usually get both but do not like the rudeness. Some people want everyone to be miserable like they are I guess. Bill

I don't agree with "answer the question exactly as it is asked."

If you're asking the question obviously you don't know everything about the subject. There are probably things you have not considered which affect complexity, cost, and/or safety. There may be a simpler, cheaper, less risky solution.

Silly example: "How can I drive this nail while holding my thumb on the head? Every time I hit the nail I get this sharp pain in my thumb and I don't like it!"

The simple solution is, don't hold the nail with your thumb on the head, BUT that's not answering the question as asked, so someone will throw a hissy-fit.

Regardless, this is a discussion forum. You're going to get answers that you don't want to hear. You're going to get people joking around. You're going to get wrong answers. You're going to get intentionally misleading answers. You may as well try to herd cats.

For some people, posting controversial stuff just for the fun.

Other times people will post a topic for educational purposes and some will intentionally do their best to make it go poof by using ban words.

Then when the post goes POOF, some will continue to stir the pot by posting the post went POOF.
Eventually Kim will lock down the last post.

I had no idea all that was going on Mike. If you get to where you can get out and just want a few hours away, keep an eye on the Old Iron website and stop on down to a meeting. We can catch up and get your mind off other things for a little while. Take care.

What you said is why I rarely post anything. In fact I almost never even check in here to read posts anymore. There's some of the old codgers here that apparently belong to the "good 'ol boys yt club" that don't like outsiders comments that may do things differently based on region or technology, all while you're just trying to add your own experience/knowledge to a posters problem. Maybe it's partly due to the time of year as there's another popular ag forum that contains nothing but bickering and "I'm better than you" type of posts recently. It's too bad because there's lots of knowledge here and an easy way to share it with others in need.

In-person discussions were around a long time before electronic discussion forums. Either way, they are still discussions and are subject to human nature. Do you want your rules to apply to off line as well as for online discussions? A discussion forum would be a pretty boring place if they all followed the rules you suggest. I like it the way it is with the occasional flare up that the moderators can deal with. Hopefully my reply meets your proposed standards.

He knows hes doing it. I hate to think someone could be that lonely that all they have to do is stir the pot. I hope if I live long enough to retire, I wont be that bad. Sad really.

[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]just copying this stuff off the internet[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]

You might consider creating a hyperlink to a web page that contains a lot of information.

One method is to copy the web page address and paste the address in the [b:654c4848f0]Optional Link URL:[/b:654c4848f0] text box.

First select the web page address and then copy it using your favorite method.

You might consider typing a descriptive title in the [b:654c4848f0]Link Title:[/b:654c4848f0] text box.

The link title will appear as the hyperlink below the message.

Hope this helps.

I agree with you 100% John. I have to ask myself why some of these people ever retired. They have way too much time on their hands and get angry soaking up things from somewhere else then come here to vent about them. They shouldn't have stopped working. They might have been nice folks at one time, but retirement has turned them in to real you know whats.

There used to be a poster here who was only here to stir the pot with political stuff. The moderator finally told him she had better things to do with her time than spend all day cleaning up after him and she banned him for life. I sure wish he didn't have my email address. He started loading my inbox with all that stuff. I told him if he didn't stop, I'd have to block him. He was OK for a little while, but couldn't drop it. Unfortunately Yahoo mail won't seem to let me block him, but I've directed his emails to Spam. Now and again one still gets through.

It's just so darned sad that people get so you can't stand to be around them at the same time that they get lonely and need people. I could easily name names, but I won't. I'll just deal with them one on one in my own way.

Mike, don't push too hard at getting back to work. There will be something better when you can be fully recovered. I may have been one that you were referring to on the thread that you are referring to. In my opinion the OP didn't give adequate information for anyone to be able to give a good answer, and in my opinion it is the right thing to do to try to help him to get the information that is really right. I reposted because I hate to see someone throw money down the drain when standard procedure is to get an adequate evaluation done, either by oneself or by a shop before spending the money.

Thanks for pointing it out to this young man. He's new to this site and excited about his project in general. I just hope we don't scare him away because we need more young people like him involved. Tom in Mn.
