Kobelco electrical update

First thanks for the replies. I printed them off and let the service guy read your comments on our ghost hunt.
After an hour of cleaning plugs and looking for bare wires darkness came. He explained to me he had done all this before we replaced the control module the first time.
As he went to leave I started the machine and tried to turn on the lights and nothing. That switch had been replaced and all lights were working. Now all we had was tail lights. He gets in the cab and starts clicking all the switches including the auto idle and the green light for auto idle lights up. We get a flash light and look but the display still shows the service wrench. He works the throttle lever back and forth from idle to full several times and then turns the key to shut off the machine. Now the key won't shut off the engine. He uses the emergency cable shut off.
We restart the machine and all function lights come on and the the service screen is gone. Everything is as it should be, except after a dozen more on and offs the forward lights don't work and the key will not shut the engine off.????
I asked about the 250 hr. service interval thing and he said that feature was not on this machine. It was a promising idea but he maintains it is not a possibility.
He left going to ask Kobelco for assistance and is considering whether or not it could be a faulty ignition switch. The quest continues.

Given what your saying happened I'd lean more toward the switch than anything else because I assume that's about the only place all of the functions your having problems with would tie in together. That's one of the biggest problems troubleshooting the electronics on these things, you often have no choice but to make alot of assumptions and just plain old wild a$$ guesses until a problem jumps out and says 'here I am' long enough to track it down.

That said the newer machines are typically filled with diodes that will cause odd things to happen when they go out. Typically though they just go bad and the problem shows up until corrected instead of intermittently like your describing.

I think I've got a couple of Kobelco books somewhere but I don't have a clue what machines thye would be for...if I've got them.... I'm headed out to look at buying a Bridgeport mill in a little bit but I'll look when I get back and see if I might have anything relevant to your situation.

Thanks for the replies. I started the machine today and right away the screen was showing the service wrench. I tapped the screen and it started working. Same as last night with the key unable to shut off the engine. I restarted it and this time nothing I did would unlock that service screen and the key still doesn't shut of the engine.
Looks like more cleaning and searching.

you can try some CRC contact cleaner inside the switch...unplug it and hose inside out good...let it dry thoroghly before you plug power back in.

That's what we did. Took each connector apart and soaked with WD40. Then used contact cleaner to dry and then reconnect. Still waiting to hear about possibly changing the ignition switch.
